| Bing Crosby stars in this 1942 film set at a holiday
resort. Fred Astaire and Marjorie Reynolds are wonderful, but the Berlin score
(including the song "White Christmas") is the real star. Better than
"White Christmas. " |

Alone |
| The 1990 box office smash in which Christmas is incidental to
Macaulay Culkin as Kevin, the 8-year-old mistakenly left home alone when his family goes
to Europe for the holidays. When two hopelessly bumbling burglars (hilariously
played by Daniel Stern and Joe Pesci) break into the house, Kevin devises all manner of
ingenious ploys to foil their plans, some bordering on the sadistic. Catherine
O'Hara and John Heard are Kevin's frantic parents, but the obvious star of the film is
Culkin, at his precocious best. |

| It's
a Wonderful Life |
| It's a toss-up between this 1946 Frank Capra classic and
"A Christmas Carol" as to which is most beloved and deserves to be hailed as
"the" Christmas movie of all time. Most cinema buffs would probably give
the nod to Jimmy Stewart as the small-town family man who one day wishes he'd never been
born--and gets his wish. For 130 wonderful minutes, George Bailey is Everyman,
Bedford Falls Anytown, USA. Donna Reed, Thomas Mitchell, Lionel Barrymore and Henry
Travers (as everyone's favorite angel) also star. Even more poignant in light of
Stewart's recent death. Enduring, immortal, to be seen again and again. |
