| A Very
Brady Christmas |
| Most people reading
this are probably already familiar with this 1988 TV movie (that spawned the short-lived
"dramedy" "The Bradys."). This program was played every other
day on TV during the past ten holiday seasons. The last few holiday seasons,
however, it was pretty much nowhere to be found. This pretty much makes the purchase
of a copy necessary. |

| An
American Christmas Carol |
| It is Christmas Eve 1933 and the townspeople of Concord, New
Hampshire, are trying to hold on to their Christmas spirit in the face of the Great
Depression. This wonderful adventure about a 20th century Scrooge is a moving and
heartfelt adaptation of Charles Dickens' immortal tale. Henry Winkler, David Wayne
& Dorian Harewood. |

| Annabelle's Wish |
| Even with token bully kids, this kids animated feature is
quaint, touching, and is just different enough from the normal holiday tales to be
something special. About a boy who doesn't speak, his calf who wants to be a
reindeer and the spirit of giving. |

| Barney's -
Night Before Christmas (1999) |
| Parents coerced into purchasing this tape by their children
(devoted fans of the ever-present Barney) will be relieved to know that nearly all the
classic holiday songs are allowed to maintain their original lyrics and not rewritten, as
is typical Barney. This made-for-video Christmas special follows the adventures of Barney,
BJ, Baby Bop, and their kiddy friends on a journey to the North Pole. There in the frozen
candyland they meet that bearded icon of happiness, Santa Claus. Barney's Night
Before Christmas resembles a '70s variety show, featuring silly skits in which the
characters frequently break into song. Producers are smart enough to engage older
kid actors, which are a draw to the younger intended audience. The tape offers lessons in
Christmas traditions--the spirit of giving, working together, and winter fun. Some tunes
covered: the goofy "Jingle at the Window," "Winter's Wonderful,"
"Deck the Halls," "O Christmas Tree," "We Wish You a Merry
Christmas," "Jolly Old St. Nicholas," "Jingle Bells," "Look
Into Santa's Book," "12 Days of Christmas," and several instrumentals. |

| Bear in the Big Blue House - Berry Bear
Christmas |
| Bear smells the scents
of pinecones, mistletoe and holiday cookies in the Big Blue House -- which means it's a
special time of year! Bear and his friends learn about the various winter holidays:
Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa and Winterberry...but most of all, they learn there is
more to the holidays than receiving presents. In fact, the best present ever is seeing
someone smile in gratitude after you have just helped him or her. The characters learn
this lesson firsthand after helping a homeless dog find a home. Featured songs: "A
Berry Bear Christmas," "Holiday for Everyone," "That's All I Want for
Christmas," "What If," "Just Listen," "Woodland Valley
Carols," "Legend of Winterberry," "What Did I Get For Christmas,"
"The Best Present Ever" and "Winter Berry Reprise." |

| Beauty
and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas |
| This made for video Disney film is told as a flashback to
Belle's imprisonment in the Beast's castle. Belle is determined to hold a Christmas
celebration in spite of the Beast's orders to the contrary. And unknown to Belle,
the pipe organ, Forte, wants to get rid of her. Forte is animated entirely by computer and
the effect is stunning. Tim Curry supplies just the right touch of sinister evil to
Forte's voice. There are four new songs and Bernadette Peters is a new voice: the
Christmas ornament, Angelique. All the other main characters from the original
return (the voices of Paige O'Hara as Belle; Robby Benson as the Beast; Angela Lansbury as
Mrs. Potts; Jerry Orbach as Lumiere; and David Ogden Stiers as Cogsworth). A
delight. |

| The
Bishop's Wife |
| This 1947 classic featured the all-star cast of Cary Grant,
David Niven, and Loretta Young. It is a delightful romantic comedy where Cary Grant
materializes as an angel in answer to prayers of a harried young Bishop (Niven) who seeks
guidance whether or not to build a grand cathedral. Niven's efforts have endangered
his marriage with L. Young. Grant enters the household to help.
Although theologically out to lunch, it is a charming and delightful comedy. Loretta
Young does her own skating in the movie. |

| Starring Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, this movie portrays
Debbie Reynolds as a young, single department store clerk who stumbles upon an abandoned
baby on the doorstep of a foster agency. When she carries the crying baby in the
door, nobody would believe she was not the mother. Eddie Fisher plays the son of the
owner of the posh department store, who ends up falling for Debbie Reynolds. This
movie was filmed in 1956, so it finds favor with the "old fashioned" hearts who
enjoy Broadway style music and humor. This is a good, clean family movie. |
